Fahmida Zaman:
In all the public universities of Bangladesh, year after year, all the Hindu, Muslim, Buddhist, Christian, agnostic, atheist students are called "Assalamu Alaikum" as soon as they see the seniors getting up, sitting down, hugging and muttering. It's not just at the university, almost all the office bosses just see, "Sir, Assalamu Alaikum and mam, Assalamu Alaikum" at the youngest age or the rank of the lower tongue becomes a pain.
For so many years, no one has spoken about the dominance of two Arabic words in Bengali culture. At least as far as I know, no one has objected to this. This issue did not cause any eye or headache. But this "salam culture" is not such a small matter. It directly hurts the opinions, philosophy or beliefs of others.
If I may say so, it is no less heinous. When I set foot in university in January, I was harassed for not saluting. I can walk without being very arrogant and loud boila salam, I can. Let me tell you a story of one day - I and my two classmates Asif Tanzir and M M Muzahid Akash are drinking tea and smoking in TSC. At that time a senior came and said to me, "Are you Fahmida Zaman Flora?" I talked to him and introduced him to the two of them. Since neither of them greeted the senior, the senior said, "Didn't the seniors in your department teach you anything?" Neither Asif nor Akash was a little stunned and I started saying, "Mr. So-and-so, I didn't greet you either. Why would anyone who doesn't practice Islam greet you? It is not a matter of pride but of shame. It should be that whoever wishes will greet and whoever does not wish will not greet. " Then that senior didn't have any more because he didn't have an argument to stand by my strong argument, no.
There are many such stories about Salam. It so happened that I did not greet the seniors when they saw me, Apu Assalamu Alaikum said. Discomfort! This is the problem of Bengali Muslims. They think that their religion is the only sacred constitution. No one can go on without what is here. All religions, irrespective of caste, must carry their holy scriptures. They can’t take different cultures, like different. Occupied, forcibly inherited culture They have been practicing Dhaira for a long time and are making this religious provision of theirs into Bengali culture, tradition.
But not only Muslims live in this Bengal. Hindus, Buddhists, Christians, agnostics and atheists also live there. This Bangladesh is as much for Muslims as it is for Hindus, Buddhists, Christians, agnostics and atheists. So, you can't become a Muslim and impose your religious rulings on an agnostic atheist like me who is not a believer in "Bengali culture". Uh oh, unscrupulous, inhuman, even if you impose your religious precepts on me as "Bengali culture", I consciously withdraw, protest, because I am a more conscious citizen about my existence, my rights. “Culture” on the other hand is not a permanent term, it is variable. So, my salutation can become an established culture through a lot of practice. If others want to impose on you the culture of others, the religion of others, do not practice it, Loudley protests. You can't live for others, Kieran.
Again "suppressed" and "voluntarily observed" are two completely different concepts. Try to understand this! Although you can practice all the cultures if you want, but don't force yourself to do what you don't like.
